Chapter one
A surprise at Green Gables

The story started with family Cutherbert and their wish to pick up a boy about eleven years old from an orphanage to help them in the Green Gables farm. Mrs. Spencer helped them to adopt a child. She was going to adopt a little girl from the orphanage.
One beautiful morning the neighbors saw Mathew Cutherbert dressed in his best clothes and everybody put question where was he going dressed up like that and why? Marilla (his sister) told them that he went to pick up the orphan boy they were adopting.
When Matthew had arrived at the train station. There was no sigh of a train. Matthew saw to the far end of the train platform. A thin child sat there on a stack of roofing shingles. Matthew was surprised. He saw a child about eleven years old but  the child was a girl. She was red hair girl dressed in a very short and ugly yellow dress and a faded brown hat. Matthew went to meet her. Matthew decided to take her home even though she was a girl.
When they arrived in the Green Gables, Marilla was opened the door for them and she asked a short question " Where is the boy?" Matthew explained her what happened on the train station.
The name of the child was Anne Shirley, but she wanted call her Cordelia (her romantic name).
Marrila was very upset about this story with the child from an orphanage. She wanted to send back the girl, just because they want a boy to help Matthew on the farm.
Everybody had a dinner and after that Marilla put Anne to bed. The little girl started to cry. She was so confused about her life and where she will be on the next day.
Matthew and Marilla had a short conversation about the situation and what to do. Marilla didn't want this girl. She will be helpless for the farm.
